Christy Namee Erickson

Christy Namee Erickson is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist , community activist, educator, and writer whose work is grounded in social justice and community engagement. Korean born and Alaskan grown, Christy's favorite language is poetry. She has shared stages with Patricia Smith, Beau Sia, Ishle Park, Bao Phi, and a host of other gorgeous slam champions and writers she's still reeling about. Her / her work has appeared in such places as The Loft Literary Center's Equilibrium series in Minneapolis, The Roundhouse in London, Angry Asian Man, Race Talk, and the newly released anthology "Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines." She's been honored to receive the 2013 Mayor's Award for Artist of the Year, the Rasmuson Foundation Individual Artist Award, and the Loft Immersion Fellowship. Christy also co-founded Woosh Kinaadeiyí (a nonprofit arts organization committed to “diversity, inclusive community, and empowering voice"), leads spoken word workshops for youth and adults, and runs a post office slash gift shop slash community gathering space called Kindred Post in Juneau.
A student of social justice and conflict studies, and mentored by community organizers and spoken word poets, Christy strives to use art and creativity as tools for social activism and community building.
